1ST GEN SIDE GAP SPARK PLUGS

Any 1st gen early model owners, done the side gap on their spark plugs? Would it make more sense to swap to Iridium CR6HIX, and/or even side gap these? To be clear, I'm not looking for horsepower gain, just better throttle response without major modifications to the engine or rejetting carb. Currently running the stock NGK CR6HS. Thanks
