Lighting Solutions

Question 🤔

TLDR: does anyone have ideas about safely dimming big lights in a renter friendly way?

I'm super sensitive to lights (diagnosed with Irlen's syndrome by a 3rd party but couldn't afford to do their whole song and dance so I just say I'm sensitive to white light) and I'm moving out of my parents house in the near future. Right now, I wear colored glasses with my prescription from Zenni, my bedroom light has a dimmer, I have sheer curtains for when sun comes through at the wrong angle. When I move out, it'll be to an apartment. Does anyone have any advice on finding softer or more diffuse lights. Lamps and lampshades are the extent of my plan right now but I'm looking for solutions with The Big Light™️ because as my parents have recently pointed out, white LEDs are they easiest to find and even harder to find any that are dim enough for me to feel okay, especially without my glasses. In the past I have used a thin colored scarf to diffuse/color a light that was too bright because I knew it would only be a few hours and it wasn't right on the bulb (encased in resin) plus I was in the room the whole time. I wouldn't be opposed to tacking something like that up over a light and repairing the holes before I leave but I don't think that would be the safest.
