Persistent targeting of Fair Haven neighborhood online/Community safety resources & Hotline for 🧊 Sightings
Hi everyone,
I’m posting this because I’ve observed an account on Twitter/X that is almost daily tagging ICE and local authorities, specifically pinpointing the Fair Haven neighborhood. If you search for “New Haven ICE” on Twitter/X, you will see the pattern of posts I’m talking about. This individual isn't just sharing news; they are actively trying to direct federal enforcement into our neighborhood on a daily basis. Given the recent increase in ICE presence in our city, this feels like a direct threat to the safety and peace of our neighbors.
I’m sharing this so the neighborhood can stay vigilant. Since we can't link to personal profiles here, I’m asking everyone to look out for our community. If you see posts that promote harassment or target a specific neighborhood based on its demographics, please use that platform's reporting tools for Hateful Conduct.
If you see actual ICE activity in person, please use the SALUTE method and call this hotline immediately:
New Haven Hotline: 854-666-4472 (Bilingual EN/ES)
• S - Size (How many agents?)
• A - Actions (What are they doing? Approaching a house, standing around?)
• L - Location (Be precise: e.g., "Grand between Ferry and Poplar," not just "Fair Haven.")
• U - Uniforms (What are they wearing?)
• T - Time (When did you see this?)
• E - Equipment (Vehicle color/make/model?)
Know Your Rights (CT TRUST Act):
• Local Police: Per the CT TRUST Act, New Haven police and city employees generally do not cooperate with ICE without a judicial warrant. You do not need to fear local authorities based on status.
• At the Door: ICE cannot enter a home without a judicial warrant signed by a judge. An administrative warrant (signed by an ICE official) is NOT enough to enter a home.
• Silent Rights: You have the right to remain silent and do not have to answer questions about where you were born.
Local Support:
• Unidad Latina en Acción (ULA): 203-606-3484
• New Haven Legal Assistance: 203-946-4811
Please look out for one another. Given all the recent national news, I think it’s more important now than ever.
