I've suddenly developed the ability to "turn off" emotions/sensations
This is going to sound insane. This is going to sound like psychosis. Maybe it is. I'm taking my meds though. I'm talking with my psych Monday, maybe it's a well known symptom, I have no idea.
But like two weeks ago my therapist taught me a skill to deal with my suicidal ideation, a pretty basic one. Map out where the feeling is in your body. It turned out to work really well, and all of a sudden I could just "turn off" my suicidal feelings. Then I applied it to everything, my anxiety, my intrusive thoughts, and even my manic happiness, and I could turn off those as well.
It takes a bit, and I have to focus, and sometimes it comes back pretty quick, but it has a 100% success rate. Works for emotions, physical sensations, haven't tried it for physical pain, don't really want to open that door.
I genuinely don't know what to do with this. Doesn't really match my understanding of the world. Pretty cool skill to have I guess.
I can't "turn on" my emotions. I don't get to choose what starts, only what stops.
Gonna talk to my psych about it. Anybody have any advice? Anybody go through anything similar?
