What are the interests of my Washington District 3 people?

Politics

I ask this question because I see MGP, one of only seven Democrats, voted to keep the Government open, thereby providing further funding to ICE. I think at this point, it’s pretty clear to most people agree that ICE is not really doing great stuff to and for the people in Minneapolis (as well as many other places). If you’re not aware of what they’ve been up to, then this post is probably not for you.

As has been stated in other posts, here is what she said to justify giving more funding to ICE:

Many in my community, myself included, believe the Administration was on the right track when they pledged to secure our borders and uphold law and order. However, it now appears to many of us that in pursuit of politically motivated removal goals and rushed timelines, federal law enforcement is being pressured to exercise overly aggressive tactics that endanger law enforcement and civilians. This is corrosive to the long term security and stability of our great country. Indiscriminate, overly aggressive slogans like ‘Defund ICE’ are not the solutions. We should not be forced into a false choice between having no border security and arresting US citizens.

I’ve read this a bunch of times and it’s not exactly nuanced. It seems like it’s just the slop of whatever words were put together by some poor intern to fill a page in response to a yes vote on something that is very unpopular for democrats. It’s like she didn’t even really try and I’m not sure if I’m just too stupid to understand or if she’s stupid or she just thinks we’re stupid. This statement was made after a year of ICE terrorizing many communities across the country, and after the killing of Renee Good.

And the day before she made this vote and released her statement two days ago (January 22nd), it has come out that a Cuban man in Texas, Geraldo Lunas Campos was killed in ICE detention where the autopsy ruled it a homicide. A witness claimed a bunch of guards straight up choked the man to death. Despite that she still thought this was a pretty good statement to make.

And then today, we all saw that Alex Pretti was slaughtered in the streets of Minneapolis by a half dozen ICE members. Then we get these 48 words from MGP’s office:

It’s unacceptable to have another needless death in Minnesota, and it’s unacceptable to have elected officials, candidates, and administration officials continue to throw gas on this fire, or tacitly encourage assaults on law enforcement and anyone else. The situation is un-American and Secretary Noem needs to step down.

To me it seems like addressing a straight up execution by the federal government of a US citizen in the street deserves a little more than a mildly worded 48 word statement and pointing out a little bit of un-American extrajudicial killing of a regular guy who could have been any one of us, but that’s just me.

Like many Americans, I’m worried for when the current Administration decides to surge ICE into PDX/Vancouver like we’re seeing in Minneapolis. But to me it doesn’t really look like MGP really thinks we should be based on her statement.

Back to the original point of this post–WA-3 is and has been a diverse demographic for the decades that I have lived here, and despite the tremendous growth in the last three decades, that fact hasn’t changed much. We have a diverse set of interests but I’m not really sure what MGP thinks those interests are. From what I can tell, she doesn’t really seem to be addressing many of them as our elected representative, but I don’t know. Am I stupid? Are you stupid? Is MGP stupid? Does MGP think we’re stupid? Tell me my fellow WA-3 constituents.
