Communication issues
I feel incredibly frustrated. Growing up, it was learned that if one of the parents were in a certain mood, don't bother them. Sure this taught avoidance of being yelled at for something that was out of the control of everyone; parent's mood, unsuspecting kid wanting to ask something and not realizing that mood and what brought it on. The times when it was not realized that someone was feeling that mood (angry/overwhelmed and unable to explain why/frustration/etc) and myself or my sibling would go to what we thought was the available parent to ask something and the result was usually being yelled at. If dad was in the basement, it was an unconscious agreement that unless it was an emergency, don't bother him. If mom was for the sake of an example slamming things, just leave her alone. This has been for ages.
Still living at home, minus the dad, same still happens because of a lack of communication because space will be given if someone needs it, but in some cases there will be frustration that they are the only one doing things because the one job has turned into 20. Instead of asking for help (or presuming that there will be someone in earshot) things will be done angrily and wear them out, making it worse because it just does. Requesting something back gets anger at this point because the one who is tired does not remember that it was borrowed months ago, and will look for it in a place that it would not be. When help was to be offered, my head was bitten off and things slammed around. I decided not to help and left. Perhaps I should have not interfered, but I wanted to help. Oh, and I should have said something about having salted the front walkway earlier, but it was done again with the complaint that there were multiple things done, but I should have said something, so I need to communicate better too. Though, I would have thought that someone seeing a good portion of salt on the walk already would have clued one in on it being done already. Thank you for reading this vent.
