JBL Quantum 950 Wireless: Game/Chat endpoints cannot be used simultaneously on Windows (audio gets muted unless using a virtual mixer)
Disclaimer: This is not a support request — I already found a workaround. I’m posting to discuss a driver/design limitation and see if others experience the same.
Hi everyone,
I’m posting this both as a warning and to get feedback from other Quantum 950 owners — and hopefully someone from JBL notices this.
I’m experiencing a very specific (and honestly frustrating) behavior with the JBL Quantum 950 Wireless on Windows related to the Game / Chat audio endpoints.
The problem
The headset exposes two endpoints:
- JBL Quantum 950 Wireless Game
- JBL Quantum 950 Wireless Chat
However, they cannot operate simultaneously.
What happens in practice:
- If I’m in a Discord call using Chat and someone starts talking, browser video audio (Game) stops playing or gets muted.
- If a video is already playing and I join a call, the call has no audio.
- Only one endpoint works at a time — whichever becomes active first.
This happens even with:
- Windows “exclusive mode” disabled
- Communication attenuation set to “Do nothing”
- Explicit device selection per app
This is not an application issue — it’s clearly a driver / endpoint routing limitation.
Why this is strange
I previously owned:
- Astro A50 X
- JBL Quantum 810
- JBL Quantum 910
None of them behaved like this.
On those headsets:
- Game and Chat mixing works either in hardware or transparently in the driver.
- Media + voice calls coexist normally.
On the Quantum 950, the driver seems to hard-switch DSP / radio resources between endpoints instead of mixing them.
Current workaround (not ideal)
The only way to make everything work together is by using a virtual mixer like Voicemeeter:
- Route all system audio into Voicemeeter
- Send only one output (Game) to the headset
- Route the mic separately
This works — but:
- It’s not beginner-friendly
- Windows volume control no longer works
- This should NOT be required for a premium wireless headset
Why I’m posting
- To confirm if other Quantum 950 users see the same behavior
- To understand if this is a driver limitation or a design choice
- To hopefully get acknowledgment or a firmware/driver fix from JBL
At this price point, basic simultaneous media + voice usage should work out of the box.
If you’ve experienced this, or found a better solution, I’d really appreciate your input.
Thanks!
