First time Cleveland Gun Owner? Where to get one, why, what to know
-
Where: Cleveland has a ton of nearby gun stores, all the way from Avon to Beachwood. For budgeters, there are quite a few "used gun" places like Parma Armory, Cabela’s, and Fin Feather Fur. You can get a used handgun for under $400.
-
How to use it: There are many apolitical gun courses you can take at indoor shooting ranges to learn local laws, live-fire training, and general knowledge (around $100). There are also tons of leftist gun rights groups that are very welcoming to LGBTQ+ folks and women new to guns who don't want to deal with a racist old chud.
-
Ohio gun laws are extremely loose; there is no license, test, or really any obstacle of any kind to buy one. You can be in and out with your first firearm and a box of ammo within 20 minutes (a different issue, but whatever).
-
You are allowed to concealed carry without a license in most public spaces except police stations, courthouses, schools (unless permitted), government buildings, and places of worship (without permission).
-
You may NOT carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle without a CHL (Concealed Handgun License). It must be unloaded and inaccessible to any passenger or driver while within the vehicle (e.g., in the trunk).
-
YOU CAN OPEN CARRY: Full Black Panther style, you are allowed to openly carry a rifle in public. BUT you better know the exact laws for the exact place you are standing at all times. Also, beware that you will have just painted a huge target on your chest, so I would advise also wearing body armor.
And finally community, please join a local group, get educated, make connection (dm me if you like), you need to develop bonds and trust in your community BEFORE it gets bad. Don't wait, if you are able bodied and capable of taking action, take this as your sign.
