Super Bowl / Post-Season Highlights & Lowlights - Leon Lett Had More Good Than Bad

So, we are getting close to Super Bowl time, which means you will often see random sports shows putting together Super Bowl "Highlights" shows for the next couple of weeks.

With those highlights, you will find some of the most noteworthy "LOWLIGHTS" being showcased as well. When it comes to Super Bowl bloopers and lowlights, everybody is always quick to make sure they include Leon Lett's fumble on the goal line during Super Bowl XXVII vs the Buffalo Bills.

Yes, Don Beebe made an incredible play to track him down and strip the ball, but does Leon really deserve this ongoing "Bill Buckner Treatment"?? After all, Leon actually did win three Super Bowls. Buckner won ZERO World Series!

OK, so we know about Leon Lett's post-season LOWlight, but what about his HIGHLIGHTS? Does he have any? Heck yea, he does! Let's take a look at Leon Lett's top three post-season highlights:

SUPER BOWL XXVII

Yes, this is the same game in which he fumbled at the goal line when the Cowboys were leading 52-17, and with very little time left on the clock. What many people don't know (or don't remember) is that Leon Lett actually had another noteworthy play earlier in that same game. Late in the second quarter, when the game was actually still competitive, Dallas was up 21-10, and Buffalo was trying to put together a quick scoring drive to end the half. With around two minutes left, Buffalo had the ball on their own 18 yard line. Guess what happened on this drive? Remember?

Leon Lett FORCED THURMAN THOMAS TO FUMBLE on his own 18-yard line. Dallas recovered the fumble. On the very next play, Troy Aikman threw a touchdown pass to Michael Irvin. This was a huge back-breaker for Buffalo and pretty much sealed the game away right there!

SUPER BOWL XXVIII

In the following season, in Super Bowl XXVIII, the Dallas Cowboys were playing the Buffalo Bills yet again and started off very sluggish. When the first half was over, Dallas was LOSING to Buffalo by a score of 6-13. Momentum was not going in the Cowboys' favor and some people were starting to believe that Buffalo would finally end their streak of bad luck in Super Bowls. So what play was it that turned things around for Dallas? Remember? ANYBODY?? Oh yea, I know!

It was LEON LETT FORCING THURMAN THOMAS TO FUMBLE YET AGAIN IN A SUPER BOWL GAME! He forced Thomas to fumble near mid-field to start the 2nd half. The fumble was scooped up by James Washington, who then sprinted for a touchdown to tie the game, 13-13. Dallas never looked back after that play, as they ended up winning by a score of 30-13.

NFC CHAMPIONSHIP - 1996

Two years after beating Buffalo for a second time, Dallas made it to Super Bowl XXX vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers. Do you remember what happened in the NFC championship game vs. Green Bay before Dallas went on to play Pittsburgh? Let me tell you!

LEON LETT INTERCEPTED BRETT FAVRE early in the game (a competitive game, mind you), deep in Green Bay territory. Leon reached up with his big paws and caught that ball like a Wide Receiver! On the following play, Aikman threw a quick, short touchdown pass to Irvin.

...Wow, not too shabby for a living NFL blooper, huh? Love him or hate him, Leon Lett made some HUGE plays in some of the biggest post-season moments for the Dallas Cowboys' Dynasty Team!
