is it possible to survive medschool with level 1 autism?

❓Asking for Help

has anyone been diagnosed with autism and survived medschool?

i just got diagnosed yesterday with level 1 autism. i’m very good at masking perhaps that’s why it took more than two decades for me to get diagnosed. i was able to graduate college with above average gwa and passed the board exam with a rating one point shy from being a topnotcher (i’d say “nakakasabay” naman ako academically). i also do not have major problems with socialization (due to learned masking) except that it burns me out really, really fast and i miss important social cues sometimes. i just want to know if there’s anyone who’s on the same situation as me. i’m afraid about how my social life will change after this, should i let my peers know? are people in medschool empathetic about mental health disorders? are there any available accommodations for someone like me?

also, how do you generally navigate the demands? both academically and socially?

feel free to tell stories about you or someone you know if they’re open to it :DD

i’m still in the process of application so i feel compelled to ask. regardless, i’d still push through my plans. i do not envision myself giving up. i just want to know about others’ experiences. :D
