Does anybody deal with darkness causing them to wake up?

About a month ago, I completely lost the ability to sleep at night, and wouldn't be able to fall asleep until sunrise, sleeping from 7am-9am(this isn't due to an alarm, I wake up at that time naturally). I attributed it to creatine, as there was really nothing else that changed. I quit creatine, my sleep improved for about a week, but then it happened again. I still get sleepy at my normal time, around midnight. But the second the light goes off, my brain sends wake up signals to my body. I probably should take trazodone, but it's very odd to take a sleeping pill when Im already so sleepy I can barely hold my eyes open. The whole getting out of bed method has always made my sleep worse, but I have to because my energy will build up so much that I nearly go into a state of mania. Ive given up on doctors, as all they have ever done is prescribe me sleeping pills, which I already have. They say my insurance wont cover an EEG, and when I asked for a hormone test, they just had me give bloodwork, which was normal.

It should be noted that I had delayed sleep phase when I was younger, then had what seemed like irregular sleep wake syndrome after trying to adjust to a morning shift. My current shift is an evening shift, (1230-11pm) and Ive been sleeping mostly good, just with a biphasic sleep schedule. This is the first time Ive had trouble falling asleep in roughly 8 years.
