One bad review can cancel out so many good ones – anyone else dealing with this stress?
You guys already know how tough it is to run a restaurant day in day out.
Lately I’ve been extra stressed because you never know – customer comes, maybe service was slow that day, or food timing off, or just bad mood, and boom, they drop a negative review on Google.
That one negative review feels like it cancels three positive ones. Our ranking, footfall, everything depends on these stars. I’ve seen my own place drop because of it, and when I’m not there the staff sometimes can’t handle angry customers well, so public negative review goes up and costs real money in lost walk-ins.
So recently I tried two things to fight this tension:
- Using Google’s report/remove tool for really unfair ones (it works sometimes but takes forever and not always successful).
- I made a simple private feedback system for my tables – customer scans one QR, does a quick smiley slider thing (like happy/neutral/unhappy), if happy it pushes them to leave Google review right away, if unhappy it comes only to me privately so I can call/fix before anything public happens.
Last few months with this, no new public negatives, and average rating climbed from around 4.1 to 4.6. Feels like less headache now.
Not saying it’s perfect or selling anything, just sharing what’s been helping me reduce that extra tension. A couple owner friends tried similar and liked it too.
