I got rejected but asked to volunteer in the same email

I applied for a job forever ago. It was total radio silence for about 2 months. Then one day I randomly got a rejection email, saying my qualifications were good but they do not need anyone at the moment. Then they linked me to their website saying “If you still want to be involved with the company, we always need volunteers!”. It wasn’t even an organization or a job that seemed like it needed volunteers. What even is this job market. They might as well have said “we like you but don’t want to pay you, want to work for free???”. Ridiculous. I get that maybe it could give me an “in” to the company but to ask me to work for free after rejecting to hire me is crazy work imo.
