Frozen pipes

Note: I’ve already called a plumber and he’ll be visiting today.

Hello Everyone. I’m a first-time home buyer and also fairly new to Fredericton (and Canadian winters), so I’m still learning how things work here. I recently noticed that I’m not getting water to only my washing machine and toilet, while the shower, vanity, and kitchen are all working fine.

I called a plumber and he suspects a frozen pipe. He suggested turning the bathroom heater on high, but that didn’t help, so he’s coming by to take a look.

I wanted to ask others in Fredericton, how do you usually keep your pipes from freezing? Is this a common issue during winter here? Any tips or experiences would be really helpful.
