Would you use a smart gaming cube at your table? Building one and want honest feedback
I've been working on a small device for D&D sessions and want to get honest opinions from people before I go further.
What it is: An inch cube (roughly the size of a large d20) with a screen, shake-to-roll dice, and Bluetooth to sync rolls with Foundry/Roll20/D&D Beyond.
What it does:
- Shake it to roll, result shows on screen AND appears in your VTT automatically
- Turn timer with buzz when your turn is taking too long
- Hidden role display for Werewolf/social deduction games
- Small standalone games (tilt maze, tamagotchi-style pet) for between sessions
Price target: $49-69
I know Pixels dice exist at ~$50/die. The difference here is the screen (you see the result on the device, not just LEDs), the games, and the lower price for a full "set" equivalent experience.
Honest questions:
- Does this solve an actual problem you have at the table, or is it a solution looking for a problem?
- Would the VTT sync actually matter to you, or do you just type rolls anyway?
- What would make this a "must buy" vs "cool but I'll pass"?
- Is $49-69 impulse-buy territory for you, or still too much for a D&D accessory?
- Would you want one per player, or is this more of a DM tool?
Not trying to sell anything—no Kickstarter yet, no landing page to push. Just want to know if I'm building something people actually want before I spend more money on tooling.
Thanks for any feedback, even if it's "this is dumb, don't bother."
