My sleep schedule is ruining my life and I don’t know how to fix it.
I’ve always struggled with my sleep schedule. It runs in my family.
My grandpa had severe insomnia. Growing up, the TV would be on until 5–6am and we all just knew he was awake. My mom was similar: sleeping late, waking late. Me and my siblings followed suit from early childhood. Studying until 2am, waking up at 7 for school.
For a long time, I was okay with it.
Now I’m 23, working remotely, which honestly doesn’t help and I’m always tired. My work is very self-driven, so as long as I get things done, my schedule is technically “fine.” When I’m away from home, it improves. I wake up before noon (not early, I know, but progress).
But every time I come back home, I revert. Sleeping until 3pm, working until 5am. Most of my day is spent in front of a screen.
I know my lifestyle plays a role and I do try. But for years, I end up back here.
Even in college, when I had 8:30am classes, I still wouldn’t fall asleep until 2–3am and would be exhausted all day. On weekends, I’d sleep until noon anyway. I’m just… more productive at night.
I’m responsible. I show up. I get my work done.
But I genuinely feel like my sleep schedule is ruining my life.
My body feels naturally nocturnal. Waking up early never feels restful because I don’t feel human before 11am. I know part of it is psychological, but knowing that doesn’t magically fix it.
I really need to fix this. I’m tired of fighting my own body
