Hi. I recently ordered a few grocery items from Swiggy Instamart. There was an offer that said if you order above Rs.99 you could pick out an item from their list for Rs.9. My bill amount came out to be Rs. 178 including the Rs. 9 item that I selected, which was a pack of Lay's wafer chips. When I received the order I instantly saw that the packet of Lay's I had received was very dirty and shabby looking, clearly old. So as usual I checked the expiry and lo and behold it had expired on 23 Dec 25. I had received an item that had expired over a month ago!! Now to be fair I knew that if they were marking down the prices it must be because they were clearing out stocks nearing expiry, seeing as I had ordered a few groceries a few days back and and chose a pack of bread for Rs. 1 which was expiring in four days. Easy enough. But to give out a product to a customer that has expired over a month ago? That is ridiculous!! And I raised this complaint in Customer Care and the best they could do was give me a Rs.6 coupon because apparently 3rs off because I had used Free Cash option. Not even a peep about why an expired item was sitting in their stores for so long and why it was delivered to the customer in the first place.

The reason I'm making this post is to spread awareness and warn you all to not buy any products that are marked down in such a way henceforth from Swiggy Instamart. Sure you might not always get an expired item but are you willing to take the risk? What they want is profit and they're willing to sell expired products to their customers for that. Don't take that risk and don't buy such obviously marked down items. Also I'm based in Kochi so I'm not sure if this applies to any other location.

I also have another request to make here. Where or how can I report this incident? Like to a legal authority? Because if this product that expired last month has been sitting on their shelves for so long, and if it's getting shipped to customers, the implication that they do not regularly monitor and discard their products is too obvious to ignore. I don't know what noise this one incident could make but it does raise the question of just how much expired products are sitting on their shelves because they do not do regular cleaning. And I would like to bring this to the attention of some food safety authority. Maybe to go have a look? So any suggestions regarding that is also welcome.

Make wise decisions everyone. Don't try to save money like I do, even if you're broke. Better to go hungry than eat expired food and 💀
