Is this preventable?

Hello, I am new ro this game series and I really like the story so far. My problem is whenever I progress the game to certain extent, I go to Library Dream to find Node standing at the white door telling me that a Cat was dragging Alice in it. Now, I know that is an ending that I can go to, but I still wanted to do more stuff. My problem is that that dumb chesire cat kills like most of my covenants (I managed to get to Bill, Duchess, and Dodo before she kills them). I just want to know if that is preventable or just part of progression that can not be avoided. Thanks for reading, grateful for all help!
