My period is being so weird this month....

So this month, my period itself was normal. However, i started bleeding really bright red blood around the day of ovulation. The bleeding lasted about 3-4 days with the blood being about a couple of drops- enough to wear a thin pad so as to not ruin my underwear. After the bleeding stopped, nothing else really happened however, today, i saw that im having dark brownish/maroonish discharge even though my period is supposed to start in 4-5 days rather than now. My period is usually always on time so it's a little weird that it started/is starting this early. What could be?
