Different turkey hunting methods?

What are your guys preferred turkey hunting methods? I'm somewhat new to turkey hunting, I've only seen doing it about three years. I mainly hunt with two other guys who have very different approaches. One of them literally never calls , he just makes little blinds where he thinks the birds should be. My other friend is more of a spot and stock guy. I hunt private land so chasing gobbles usually isn't an option but oftentimes you can see a flock a couple hundred yards away or over a hill, sneak to 60-100 yards, call them in, and wack one. Neither he or I are great callers, but birds seem a lot more responsive when you are in their personal space. The birds where I am are usually pretty hard to just call in because it seems like they're almost always henned up. Also how do you guys feel about "reaping" or using a turkey fan to get birds to come in? It sounds like some people are OK with it and some feel like it is absolute moral depravity. I've never actually done it, but I know people who have and it intrigues me. Also, what is your max range for turkeys? I'm pretty much strictly a 40yds and in guy, but I have shot a bird at around 45, I thought he was closer.
