EMDR THERAPISTS: who completely strays from the damn protocol all the time?
I work with developmental, relational, complex trauma daily. The standard protocol that is taught during the entire EMDR training feels absolutely ineffective. I choose bits and pieces of EMDR that my clients find helpful, but otherwise I feel like I stray completely from what I’m “supposed to do”. I feel a lot of resentment for how EMDR is marketed. I get so many referrals for clients who’ve been told by their current therapist that EMDR helps “process trauma fast”, and these are clients with severe, prolonged attachment injuries. There is NOTHING fast about that type of healing. Any EMDR therapists feel the same?!
