Odd Behaviour of Airpods on MacOS 10.12, and 10.8

basically the title. I have an Airpods Pro 2, which I try and connect with my Macbook Air, but the operating system doesn't work so well with it.

1. OS X 10.8 - It connects perfectly fine, but immediately stops playing the audio after a few seconds of playback (OS still believes it's playing)
2. MacOS 10.12 - This is even more weird, as it doesn't even connect and keeps unpairing the Airpods, no matter how much I try to reconnect, turn BT on and off.

Is there any way to fix this? Does the Airpods work better on something like 10.13 or 10.14? Weirdly, the Airpods work perfectly fine on OS X 10.11 (except there's no battery levels but doesn't matter to me)
