I have Sonos speakers all throughout my house, but became frustrated when I couldn’t wire a Sonos soundbar to my MacBook Pro for personal listening at my desk in my office/guest room. I wanted to enjoy better quality music than the (admittedly fairly good) MacBook Pro speakers or Bluetooth nonsense.

I pieced together what I think is a decent quality budget component system mostly from marketplace.

I’m going to connect all the power cords and speaker cords for the first time later today. Anything I need to get that I neglected to think about? Any tips or settings to be aware of? Am I insane for using this equipment in this small room? What don’t I know I don’t know?

My equipment:

Source is digital signal from MacBook Pro M3 Pro 16” >

USBC audio >

iFi Zen DAC 3: DAC/Preamp >

RCA cable >

Parasound 275 v1 Stereo Amplifier (75W at 8ohm 150W at 4ohm) >

14G AWG >

Sony SS CS5 x2 (100W @ 6 Ω)

Monoprice Monolith M-12 v2 THX subwoofer (500W rms)

Going to try to rein in the subwoofer without DSP for now. I’ve spent more than enough for a while already! Man oh man is that thing big. I had no idea how big it would actually look - it really is a monolith. The only place it fits is right at my feet under the computer desk. I’d put it in the adjacent room and probably have more balance but it’s my daughter’s room and she’s 2 and doesn’t need a subwoofer in her room (so says my wife).

How bad will all this stuff sound in my small guest room?

Can anyone give me some pointers before connecting my first system?
