Beginning in June, **eight** world cup matches will be played at the [MetLife Stadium](https://maps.app.goo.gl/H9DtWnus8s6cHGFx5) in East Rutherford, NJ. For a full schedule of the matches, [see here](https://nynjfwc26.com/schedule/).

Over the five weeks of matches, you can expect events all over the city and every bar in the city will be showing the games from throughout the continent. It is expected that the normal summer tourist crowds will be even larger due to the World Cup. If you really want to get in to a particular restaurant, Broadway show, concert, attraction and/hotel; **book immediately**.

If you are planning to visit please read through the pinned posts in the sub to learn more about [transit options](https://www.reddit.com/r/visitingnyc/comments/1l60pu1/before_you_ask_a_transit_question_read_this_post/), [accommodations](https://www.reddit.com/r/visitingnyc/comments/1o571g0/accommodations_megathread/), [common courtesies](https://www.reddit.com/r/visitingnyc/comments/1obrh56/a_few_basic_courtesies_for_your_next_nyc_trip/) and other [summer activities](https://www.reddit.com/r/visitingnyc/comments/1kqmg4t/what_to_do_in_nyc_summer_2025_read_this_before/).

(Nearest train stops: [Liberty State Park](https://maps.app.goo.gl/TKyXfnkSDwexYgqY6) \- Hudson-Bergen Light Rail)

**Transportation**

Do not drive to the venues. You will not be allowed at the stadium unless you have a ticket

The matches and the major Fan Fest are in **New Jersey**. Both of these locations are not especially easy to get to via public transit, but public transit is still the best way to get there. We expect extra public transit service for the events that will be detailed closer to the date.

Train service will be from New York Penn Station. You'll need to go one stop to Secaucus Junction and then switch to another train to the Meadowlands. Bus service will leave from multiple locations in the area.

There will be bus service and extra train service to the stadium. Plan to leave early. Be patient.

**Accommodations**

If you have your hotel already booked, good job. If you don't, good luck. Be prepared to pay a premium on top of already expensive hotel rates.

Read the [accommodations megathread](https://www.reddit.com/r/visitingnyc/comments/1o571g0/accommodations_megathread/) for tips on finding lodging.

Reminder that airbnb, VRBO and other short term rentals are illegal in NYC unless you are only renting a room and the host is staying in the same apartment (you will share space and internal doors cannot have locks). Most cities in New Jersey have similar laws. Make sure you research before you book, if you go that route.

**FAQ**

**How do I get tickets?**

To get tickets from the official source (recommended) you must sign up through the [FIFA portal](https://www.fifa.com/en/tournaments/mens/worldcup/canadamexicousa2026/tickets). There is a resell market also within the FIFA portal. There will be tickets available on third party platforms (Stubhub, SeatGeek, etc). Buyer beware. There will inevitably be scams. If it sounds too good to be true, it likely is.

**Where can I watch my team?**

Every bar and restaurant with a TV will be showing the matches.

**Is there a cost to go to the Fan Festivals?**

No, other than transportation. No doubt there will be lots of overpriced food, drinks and souvenirs, though

**Where do I go to get a cheap beer and watch the match?**

First, get out of midtown (even though there are a few dives there). Consult this list for a decent list of [dive bars](https://www.theinfatuation.com/new-york/guides/nyc-dive-bars).

**How do I get to the matches in Philadelphia and/or Boston?**

Best way to get to either one of stadiums is via [Amtrak ](https://www.amtrak.com/home)(buy in advance; tickets will sell out). For Philadelphia, go to [30th Street Station](https://maps.app.goo.gl/T3HqoZMPLvYsKAqe9), then use [SEPTA](https://maps.app.goo.gl/T3HqoZMPLvYsKAqe9) to get to [Lincoln Financial Field](https://maps.app.goo.gl/dGuXaaqgebtHz2PK8). For Boston, go to either [Providence](https://maps.app.goo.gl/BGzpJ2nA1QSPfQ4Y7) or [Boston-Back Bay](https://maps.app.goo.gl/XZRKoJpue4r5PUgr9) and switch to a [MBTA](https://www.mbta.com) commuter rail road train to Foxboro (the [Gillette Stadium](https://maps.app.goo.gl/AN7kqicmBEmUVcYy6) is in small town between Providence and Boston). Boston/Providence is NOT a day trip.
