Resignation Question

Can I set my resignation date as the later of X date or the last day of furloughed status?

During the last shutdown, I started applying to private sector openings after we were encouraged to volunteer to be excepted for the duration, due to concern furloughed positions would be cut. Getting nothing extra for working the duration of the shutdown did not sit right with me. I was offered and accepted a private sector healthcare job and was originally expecting to start in a couple of months. They just asked me to move up my start date.

My original plan was to see if another shutdown materialized before submitting my resignation, but the adjusted start date is literally next week.

Can I submit a resignation that states effective the later of x date or the last duty day of furloughed status (we will once again be given an option to be excepted or not). Can I submit leave to stretch out my resignation if the latter is not allowed (my supervisor will approve)?

After 15 years of federal healthcare service, I’m just done, and although I love my immediate office and supervisor, and my actual job is rewarding, DHA’s terrible work culture and overall incompetence increasingly impact me. I’d ask HR, but we no longer have local HR. Questions get routed through our RMO to DHA, and we are told not to contact DHA directly.
