Where do you find a good quality tradesmen and workmen like painters or decorators?

I will preempt by saying that I can't do a lot of DIY at home myself. No immediate family that can do stuff for me either. But I am happy to pay someone else a fair sum to do things like skimming the walls, plastering, putting up the wallpapers, painting and decorating etc. I also do care about the quality and finish of the work done. So I started wondering - where do these middle class people with their highly polished homes on Rightmove get their tradespeople from? I've been looking on checkatrade, local Facebook groups, Nextdoor, but I genuinely don't know where to find someone who will do a good job without messing about (seen too many posts where Jimmy The Happy Builder will do everything for you - gutters, patios, wallpapers, shelving, loft extensions etc. no questions asked and then warnings pop up that he didn't finish the job or left more mess than originally started with). Where do people find good local tradesmen that are insured, vetted and with quality of their work verified?
