Was Elrond actually there 3,000 years ago?

In the Fellowship movie, Elrond is shown fighting at the Last Alliance (and of course, also shown trying to get Isildur to destroy the ring). I just finished a reread of the books, and didn't come across any mention of him being at the battle. So, while I know he didn't actually lead Isildur into Mount Doom to destroy the ring, was he at the battle at all?
