HyperV External Switch Configuration Help
I am completely new to HyperV and trying to learn virtualization. I have a server that has 5 external IPs assigned to the nic as statically assigned since the router providing those IPs does not allow DHCP. Running server 2022.
x.x.x.250-x.x.x.254 subnet 255.255.255.248 default gateway x.x.x.249. Before setting up the external switch in hyperv manager, I was having all five of those IPs assigned to my NIC so that I could segment services by what IP they were coming in on in my firewall rules. I want to use the x.x.x.252 for the IP of the VM. I currently have only one nic available to me until the owner of the router/firewall cables up the other ports on my four port nic card, so I am currently setting the external switch to allow management to share the single nic port with the VM. After I created the virtual switch, it copied the 5 ips to the network interface in network sharing center. And all of those IPs are reachable outside the network. However, trying to configure the OS in the VM to use the x.x.x.252 IP, it doesn't seem to have an outgoing connection to the internet, as I can't ping 8.8.88.
Do I need to remove the x.x.x.252 IP from the interface in network and sharing center within the host pc for the VM to use that IP and not have a conflict with the host?
