Childhood book I can’t find about a king who’s never satisfied with his food
Hello, I’ve been trying for years to find a specific book I read in kindergarten or so, I remember it being part of the small library they had in the middle of the main room. For reference it was in Italy, around 2012 or later, the book itself was in Italian, no idea if it was limited to here. The book is quite short, big in size and thin, with dark black and brown through the whole story, a semi realistic style and definitely not a standard child book look.
It talks about a king who just can’t seem to like anything his chefs make, he’s hogging all wealth and food or something and so his people are all poor and starving. He decides to lock up I think 100 chefs in a room, chained too, and each day one of them has to cook him a meal. They all do very complicated dishes and he’s never happy, I think he has them killed if they fail so they’re all scared. Between them there’s a very young chef, he’s afraid of being next so he escapes and is hidden by a poor farmer and his wife I believe, they offer him all they food they have, an apple, a piece of bread and cheese. The guards find him and drag him in front of the king. The chef offers the farmer’s food to the king, who is finally satisfied by the simple food and it becomes his favorite dish or stuff like that, the end is fuzzy but it’s pretty much it.
The book is a brownish black even on the outside, I clearly remember the apple, bread and cheese being in the middle of the back of the cover, I have no memory of the front.
