Am I making a mistake by blocking two friends I know in real life?

I’m not great at handling social conflict, so I’m second‑guessing whether I did the right thing by blocking two people I know in real life. For most of last year, they’ve been making comments that are hateful, racist, ableist, and homophobic — all things I’m strongly against. End of year they had a falling‑out with someone I’m close to and have been spreading lies about her, which was the final straw for me. One of them had already blocked me anyway, so I blocked them both.

Now I’m unsure if it was the right move. School starts soon, and I’ll still have to be around them. We share some classes, and we’re part of the same larger friend group, so it’s going to be awkward. On top of that, we’re all on an important school team together, and the environment is already tense. I’m worried my decision will make things worse.

I’m also considering leaving the team. I’m not very interested in it, and there’s already an extra person who isn’t supposed to be there, so me stepping back might actually help. But I feel guilty about turning down the opportunity.

I know I’m not perfect either — I haven’t confronted them directly about their behavior because I’m scared of conflict, and I don’t have many friends to lose. I’m just trying to figure out if blocking them was the right choice and whether leaving the team would make things better or worse.
