Made in Japan vs Indonesia PAL models
Looking to buy a Dreamcast for my collection, PAL version, but I’m not sure about the main differences between the production country and the other details on the labels. I have some experience with gamecube and ps consoles, but I don’t know much about Dreamcast.
From my quick research, I’ve found that early models were mainly made in Japan, but production later moved to Indonesia and China, with the majority of PAL models made in Japan or Indonesia. My main concern is the mobo, which comes in 3 revisions. Is it possible to tell from the manufacturing country and the labels underneath the console whether it’s an early model? There’s also a circle with a number inside that I’ve seen mentioned. I’m mainly interested in VA0 or VA1 models, since I’d like to run backups if I can’t find the games I want.
I’ve also noticed that the units made in Japan are really yellowed, which I guess is a good sign of an early model. The ones made in Indonesia look almost new, with little to no yellowing.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
