Infrequent grand Mal seizures

Question

Hey, so as title suggests, I suffer from infrequent grand Mal seizures and I’m looking for some advice. I apologise for the long winded rant like post, but feel like I should include everything. (Question is probably more aimed at UK sufferers!)

For background.. had my first seizure in 2024 at 28, was in the bathroom in the early hours of the morning, went to leave and then next thing I know my roommate was stood infront of me on the phone to emergency services. Apparently he heard a very loud yell and came in to find me convulsing in the floor. Went to the A&E and they did some tests and didn’t really get any answers as to what happened.

Fast forward just over a year later, had another one as I was getting out of bed to get the kid ready for school. Looked at my phone for the time, then next thing I know I’m sitting up again, thinking I must have fallen back to sleep, I go to check the time again to discover my phones across the room, and I slowly realise my body hurts quite a lot, my tongue is bleeding and my legs and arms feel like they’re all on the verge of cramping.

After another A&E trip I was referred to a neurologist, had eeg, ecg, and mri’s done, and have been diagnosed with epilepsy and put on levetiracetam amarox.

Now I’ve recently had another seizure, as I was walking home from the morning school run, and another A&E trip.. at this point there’s not really anything they can do if I haven’t hurt myself. I was advised that I should keep a seizure diary, and note down times and lengths etc.. but given that they are so infrequent, I feel like that isn’t going to help me in any meaningful way. I still work, though it’s definitely a pain having a seizure and then feeling sore and disoriented for a day or two. It’s definitely dragging me down mentally at the moment. Was told i might qualify for PIP, to help with the loss of earnings when it does happen.. but from everything I’ve seen it seems very arduous to get anything for epilepsy, especially if it’s not effecting you every single day.

So my question I guess is, is it still worth going for PIP? How likely is it to succeed and what can I best do to help improve my situation?

Again, apologies for the essay, just need to speak to someone who’s either in or experienced the same boat I guess.
