does minoxidil really help?

hair loss/fall is a genetic problem of our family as none my father, grand father, grand grand father had hair! the problem is so severe that my father lost all his hair by 28/29...i'm also running into the same path...already lost a huge portion of hair from my forehead. (light e gele kopal chok chok kore, literally glaze dey)

so the question is will minoxidil be any help in my case? of course i'll consult with a specialist but still wanted to know from the people who encountered same problem!
