cat gone during storm

my boyfriend got an adult cat about a month and a week ago but on sunday night my boyfriend accidentally didn’t shut the front door right and he got out, and my boyfriend said he seen him again at the window but ran when he tried to get him so my boyfriend left the downstairs windows open hoping he could come through. There was a storm last night and we tried to call him with food but assumed he would be too scared to come out and would be hiding nearby, (no lightening or thunder just rain and wind) But it’s now tuesday morning and he’s still not around, i put some food outside the front door, there’s a road near the house but it’s quiet and mostly there is just fields around. any advice on how to encourage him to come home?
