**CCTV Myths That Put People at Risk**

CCTV is useful, but it is not magic. Many people install cameras and relax, then later discover they recorded nothing helpful, or the camera captured the wrong angle, or it failed during the exact moment it was needed.

Let’s clear the most common myths.

**Myth 1: Any camera is better than no camera**

Not true. A badly placed camera can give you false confidence. If it cannot see faces, entry points, or movement paths, it is mostly decoration.

Better approach: plan coverage. Cover gate approach, main entry, and any side passage that leads to windows or back doors.

**Myth 2: Cameras automatically stop crime**

Some criminals are deterred. Others cover their faces, rush the job, and still succeed if your property is easy.

Better approach: combine cameras with lighting, strong locks, and visible deterrence.

**Myth 3: One camera is enough**

One camera often shows one angle. Criminals will simply use the angle you did not cover.

Better approach: use at least two critical angles. One capturing approach, another capturing the actual entry zone.

**Myth 4: Recording is always happening**

Many systems stop recording because of storage issues, wrong settings, or power problems. Some record only when motion is detected, and the motion zone is badly configured.

Better approach: confirm recording, test playback, confirm date and time, and verify storage health.

**Myth 5: Once installed, it will always work**

Dust, rain, insects, poor power supply, weak connectors, and even a shifted camera angle can ruin performance.

Better approach: schedule maintenance checks. Clean lenses, confirm night visibility, check cables, confirm backup power.

CCTV is part of a security system, not the entire security system.
