Is my infected wound healing?

Got an infected wound and doctor prescribed me some antibiotics on Sunday. The infection caused my fingers to be swollen (note: only my index finger has the infected wound). The swelling has decreased a lot, and so has the redness and there's no more warmth, but there's more pus coming out of it. My doctor said if it's not okay/better by Wednesday (tomorrow) I should go back. Is it healing or should I go back to the hospital as per doctor's instructions? Asking because the time he gave me is right before an exam and I don't really want to miss it...and idk where else I could ask
