Billy Butcher, The Boys - after his wife disappears, learns that it was actually Homelander, americas favourite superhero, who raped her and initially he thinks he killed her. When he finally realizes what happened, he becomes obsessed with revenge. He spends years hunting the truth, building a plan, and doing whatever it takes to get close to Homelander. Butcher knows he's up against the most powerful being in The Boys' universe, but he still hunts down Homelander every day.

Kratos, God of War (Specifically GOW1) - Kratos, under servitude of Ares, goes to a village to burn it to the ground in Ares' name, and in a bloodlust, he slaughters a woman and a child, which he comes to realize is his wife and daughter, who he had left in Sparta, so the thought of them being there didn't even cross his mind. Kratos swears revenge, serves the other gods of Olympus for 10 years so that they will make him forget all the terrible things he did in Ares' name, until they quest him of retrieving Pandora's Box, which in the GOW universe has the power to kill a god, which the whole first game is about, he opens it, and kills Ares. The gods promises to take away his nightmares, and they trick him, they dont remove his nightmares at all, and this fuels Kratos anger against the Gods in the next games. (Kratos in this game is meant to be entirely mortal because they didnt plan sequels, the stuff about him being the son of Zeus is added later in the games, the bonus material for GOW1 doesn't count lore-wise either)

I just absolutely LOVE this type of stuff, i could also add Batman v Superman, i think its fucking epic but im not a huge fan of that movie or DC in general. Just a man, without powers, or anything like that, is standing up and fighting against a God is just a really cool thing to me. Probably because God of War was the first game i really really got into as a kid, so now its just engrained in me to love that type of stuff, im even writing a novel where one of the main characters is a mortal fighting a god too!

[Loved trope] Mortal man Vs God/Incredibly powerful being
