Delhi liquor shop removed MRP from bottle and overcharged me heavily – legal options?
Hi everyone,
I’m seeking advice regarding overcharging at a liquor shop in Delhi.
I recently bought Samara Red Wine from a liquor shop in Munirka, Delhi. The shop charged me ₹800 extra, even though the actual MRP of this wine is around ₹425.
The problem is:
• The MRP was deliberately removed/scratched off the bottle
• The shop did not provide a proper bill
• I later found out that selling liquor above MRP and tampering with MRP labels is illegal in Delhi
I do have:
• The bottle with excise sticker (MRP area clearly tampered)
• Payment proof (UPI/bank debit)
• Shop location and name
My questions:
1. What laws are applicable here (Delhi Excise Act / Legal Metrology / Consumer Protection)?
2. What kind of penalty or fine can the shop face?
3. What is the best authority to complain to for quick action – Delhi Excise Department or Consumer Forum?
4. Can I realistically expect a refund or action if I file a complaint?
Any guidance would be really appreciated. Thank you.
