parking tips for 0 at fox valley ice arena (geneva il 01/30)
hey everyone, figured i'd share some parking tips for the game on 01/30 at the fox valley ice arena. since the 7:05 pm puck drop is right when traffic can get backed up getting off kirk road on a friday evening, it's always a bit of a parking war here, honestly.
the absolute best move to skip the traffic and the parking drama in the main lots is to check out Prked. it's an app where local people rent out their driveways or private spots right next to the arena, usually for way cheaper than a sketchy commercial lot or a last-minute spot. you book it ahead of time, skip the line of cars trying to get into the venue lots, and you're just a short walk to the entrance.
now for the official parking situation: the arena has large, free parking lots on both the north and south sides of the building, which is a great perk. for a big event, those spots will fill up fast. you absolutely need to arrive at least 45 minutes to an hour early to guarantee yourself a decent spot in one of those free lots and to avoid the snarl on south kirk road. if you drive an ev, there's a dual plug chargepoint station on the south side of the rink.
if the on-site lot is full, be extremely careful about nearby business parking. the arena is right near places like trader joe's and walmart, but do not risk parking in their lots. their towing rules are super strict and they watch those spots closely on game nights, so it's definitely not worth the risk of getting towed.
since it is january, you have to be extra vigilant about the city's snow restrictions if you try to street park. parking is completely prohibited on main collector streets like kirk road once there are two inches of snow on the ground, and on residential streets after three inches of snowfall, or until the street is plowed curb-to-curb. if there's been any fresh snow, do not park on the street unless you want a ticket or a tow. stick to the Prked spots or the main arena lot.
a super last resort if you're absolutely desperate and don't mind a very long cold walk or catching a quick rideshare is the downtown geneva commuter parking deck. since the game is on a friday evening, parking there is free after 4 pm. but seriously, that's a few miles away, so only consider it if you are absolutely out of options.
hope this helps and enjoy the game!
