Is coming to the US still worth it?
Hi all, new to this group. I’m American and have been living and studying in Europe for 5 years, where I met and spent 3.5 years dating my now husband, we just got married while visiting the USA in December. He has only ever visited the states on an ESTA, he has never come close to overstaying, we live and work permanently in Europe (won’t further disclose details for privacy, but just to say we very clearly have wanted to return to our home in Europe every trip we’ve taken to the US in the past couple years), and we were just getting ready to start what we know will be a long process to get him a green card so in a couple years, whenever it’s approved, we can relocate to the US. The reason why we want to relocate is purely to be closer to my family and to enjoy some of our young adult lives in the US, as thus far we have spent the past five years and foreseeable future in his country. I just hit a point of wanting to go back home :’). Anyways, we are heartbroken with the state of America right now, and it makes us scared and not want to proceed with the green card process. Our situation is extremely clean, our relationship evidence is very solid (2 years long distance and now 1.5 years living together with no end in sight), we are both very privileged, and we are doing this process with a lawyer, but clearly the current administration doesn’t care about how perfect your situation is. What are your thoughts? Is there any good to come in relocating to the states? We assume we’d come in late 2027 at the absolute earliest, late 2028 at the latest. Are green card holders living in fear every day? I’m just looking for a sense of how it actually is in the states for people in situations like ours. I know how life is for my American family and friends, but don’t have anyone to talk to about immigration where I’m from. Thank you in advance and my heart goes out to everyone affected by the current situation in the US ❤️
