got an electric guitar but where to start

recently bought the yamaha pacifica 012 after a lot of thinking but now that i have the electric guitar i've no idea how to play since i've never played a guitar in my life. everyone around me constantly says to have gotten an acoustic first, is it a guitar thing to first begin on acoustic than move to electric? i can get a replacement at the shop if it's the case since the ppl who were selling said the same thing but since i liked the sound of electric guitar more i bought it instead without much overthinking but now that's it's here idk where to begin. can anyone suggest where to start from? any youtube videos or free apps?
