Getting started

I am fairly mechanical inclined and I’d like to do a little flipping for some extra cash. I’m not trying to make a killing on it or anything. But how do you find deals? Because everything around me is absolutely insane. People are selling 30 year old cars with a blown transmission half the engine gone and 230k miles and they want $2,500. How could I even attempt to make money on that. Either that or it’s obviously stolen. Also half the pictures where taken with a potato.
