How to know if a relationship is worth going back to
Hey all, I’m curious if and how someone could determine what makes returning to a 2 year relationship after a third breakup makes sense.
Context: We’re both very stubborn in disagreements, and very firm in our beliefs. However they both revolve around how we want to be seen and loved or value things.
After the first breakup, she started seeing someone after two weeks. I came back wanting more and we “worked it out”
The second was a few months later when she didn’t see the progress she wanted from us. We continued speaking but an obvious rift was formed in which we began arguing, a lot more. We then were on and off again but proceeded to date again after about a month. We had individual work stresses and on my end I didn’t do a good enough job at regulating my internal stresses and anxieties which bled into the relationship as a shorter fuse by this point.
She was overwhelming and quick to be negative about a lot including us.
Then the final 3 months happened where it was falling apart, but then someone close to me died and she made it about herself after consoling me. I checked out fully and a month later broke up with her.
3 days after this, as I’m at the funeral, she apparently is scouting new guys and after three weeks started what’s now 6 weeks with a new guy. I am 4 weeks into it with someone.
Here’s my issue. We worked well together outside of our disagreements. We laughed together, enjoyed the little things like errands, watched shows, cooked, had great physical intimacy, and unfortunately didn’t get the help we needed professionally or approached it better. At what point is it worth trying to go back and fix it, knowing they really did have a lot of love and care for me and vice versa. As angry as I am, I acknowledge how my part of the relationship impacted it just as much as hers, and by the end she left wanting more than what I was “offering”. But just a part of me, even after being medicated, seeking therapy, and openly discussing it, deleting photos, and taking as many steps as I can, I still yearn for what we had and want to fix it potentially.
