AITD for having a problem with the "text me when your home"?
Hello :)
So, tbh there is not really an ongoing argument about that, but i still would like to have mor opinions on that just to understand the whole thing better.
I (33,f) visited a friend (33,f, "kayla") on the weekend for a small birthday sit in. I made myself ready to go home when it was a bit after midnight. She said "text me when you got home" and i was.. a bit nerved by this. (And i am working on understanding why i felt this way) She often says this when i went home from a rave and i here and there forget to text when i am home. I know this and when i already know, that i will forget something i have a problem answering with a simple "yes i will". So i hesitated and she said "ah yes you forget it often" and i was kinda "yeah but i also you never text me, when you get home, but i dont understand this, bc it is something you find important? Wouldnt be this more logical?" **disclaimer: these are not the exact words. I find it hard to put it in text, bc at this convo i was searching for words so it was more of a choppy convo**
She stays most of the time much longer at the raves than me, i never asked her to text me when she is home though bc i am not used to this. My other friends of the past never said that, i myself had never the urge to ask this, so this kind of question was never really in my system. I am luckily not fearful when i walk home at night. I know though that danger is a reality. I am more the kind who wishes a good ride/walk home. I said that i also not a fan of letting that fear into my life. She texted me next day and asked if i were in the past giving hints that i dont want her to ask that. I said no and apologiezed that i showed my emotions on this. I explained to her that i dont like the idea of seeing normal everyday-activities as f.e. my walk home as something that isnt safe wich this question implies for me. But that i would never find it bad if she texts me that she had arrived home safely but i just dont aks bc i am not wired like this! (Bc she said that this question is a sign of appretiation for her) she understood my point and we are not in an active argument anymore.
But: i still think about this, also talked with my therapist. One thing she said: if you let the other ones fear become your own bc of that question, than you are too "open" (lack of better wording sorry). I get that and thats also maybe not the main point(?) I also kinda dont like this unfree feeling. When i go i want to get into my own head again. I dont want to have my head around texting my friend when i am home. This is more of a deal especially in this "everyday" scenario, with a rave i dont mind that this much. But i still will often forget it though bc im tired. My therapist said that its not my problem when i forget to text this, she can ask again via text if i am fine at home. That also did happen and i dont think i have a problem with feeling guilty for forgetting. I think its more about the point with "being for myself" when i go home.
Am i being dramatic? I know its just a harmless question and it is even a lovely question. Someone cares about my wellbeing! AITD for having *some* form of problem with that question or for not asking my friend to text me when shes home? And can someone relate/understand me, maybe share some insights? Thank u :)
Ps. English is not my firat language, if i sound harsh its maybe bc of a lack of vocabulary to phrase my thoughts etc better. Our discussion about that was not harsh, but me being visibly stressed. Our texting went on with respect and care for each other >.<
