I had to ask for accomodation at work and it just sucks
I'm working at a company where there is no opportunity to have a quiet break/lunch.
For breaks we only have a small cafeteria, with one long table and 15 people just non stop yapping. And not just that, ifs yapping about stressful things: irritation over hours, current political landscape, TMI stories about medical stuff (I work in healthcare). I cannot shut it out.
So I went to my boss to ask for accomodation and now I got permission to sit on my own in an empty room during lunch. Its nice and quiet, but I feel socially anxious about "sitting alone" and I have to constantly explain why I do.
This is really just a vent about how tough it can be to have autism in a loud workplace. I am glad with the option to sit alone, but its so tiresome to feel different and explain myself constantly. They mean well, asking me if I am okay, but people fill in how I feel. They think I dislike them or that I am unwell just because I sit alone.
I'm grateful I get accomodation. Its just...tough. Anyone else experience this while using autism accomodation?
