parking tips for toledo rockets mens basketball vs. ball state cardinals mens basketball at savage arena (toledo oh 01/31)
hey everyone, figured i'd share the parking breakdown for the ball state game on wednesday, 01/31. since this is an evening game on a weekday, you're definitely going to hit that back end of toledo's rush hour, so traffic near bancroft street and douglas road gets honestly terrible right as everyone is trying to get on campus.
if you want to skip the main campus traffic line and the congestion entirely, the real insider move is checking out an app called Prked. it lets people in the residential neighborhoods right next to the university rent out their personal driveways or garages for the night. it's usually way cheaper than the campus premium lots and the best part is you just park on a quiet side street and walk a short distance, completely bypassing the massive campus entry bottlenecks.
for the official university of toledo parking, you actually have a pretty solid deal because general admission (ga) parking is typically included in the price of your single-game ticket, so you don't even need a separate pass most of the time. the official ga lots open up three hours before tip-off, so for a standard 7:00 pm game, you can get in as early as 4:00 pm. getting there closer to 4:30 pm or 5:00 pm is smart to avoid the worst of the 6:00 pm-6:30 pm rush hour crush.
your main general admission options are first-come, first-served in lot areas 1 & 2 right off the bancroft street entrance. if those fill up, keep an eye out for overflow in areas like 19, the east parking garage, area 17 near the driscoll alumni center, and auxiliary areas 9 and 10 near the glass bowl stadium. if you are a donor or premium pass holder, lots 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, and 18 are reserved for you, but be aware that lots 3, 4, 5, and 6 are closed to other campus traffic beginning at 1:00 pm on game day. lot 5 is basically right next to savage arena. sometimes you can find prepaid passes for these closer lots on ticket resale sites starting around $10-$17.
a major pro tip is parking area 18, located east of the student recreation center (you enter via oakwood at douglas). if you park there, a free shuttle runs constantly to the upper east side of savage arena, starting about one hour to one and a half hours before the game and running for an hour after it ends. this is also where most of the accessible (handicapped) parking is located, along with area 4, but you must have a valid state-issued handicapped permit.
final warning: parking enforcement is strict. do not try to park on the grass, on sidewalks, or in fire lanes, or you will risk a ticket or a tow.
hope this helps and go rockets!
