My weed smells like hay—what did I do wrong?
I had a healthy plant that produced a lot of nice, dense buds. I harvested it when brown trichomes started to appear.
During drying I had an issue with low RH (around 40%). For 4 days I dried the plant hanging in the grow box, then I moved it into paper bags, where it spent another 4 days. During this whole time it smelled like hay, but I assumed that was normal.
After that time the stems still didn’t snap when bent, but I decided the plant was dry enough to do trimming and put the buds into Grove Bags. I didn’t have an RH meter that would fit in a jar, so I didn’t check the humidity. Only after a few days in the Grove Bags did I buy an RH meter, move the buds into a jar, and check the humidity. After a few hours the RH meter showed 56%.
I moved the buds back into the Grove Bags and bought 62% Boveda packs, which I added to the bags and have been keeping everything that way. The curing process has been going on for 2.5 weeks now, and the buds still smell like hay, even after grinding. Is there a chance the smell will change?
