AITJ for refusing to pay for my friends dinner after she ordered the most expensive items???
Me (26F) and my friend Becca (27F) went out to dinner last week. Before we ordered she said she was "a little short on cash" and asked if I could cover her and shed pay me back.
Ive done this before with her and she always pays me back eventually so I said sure. I was planning to order a pasta dish for like $18. I told her to order whatever she wants.
She ordered a $45 steak, an appetizer, two cocktails, and dessert. My meal came to $22 and hers was over $80. When the bill came and I saw the total I was shocked.
I told her I thought she was just getting a regular meal not going all out. She said I told her to "order whatever" so she did. I said when someone offers to cover you, you dont take advantage by ordering the most expensive things.
She got defensive and said if I didnt want to pay I shouldnt have offered. I said I offered to help with a meal not fund a feast. We argued and I ended up paying only for my meal and leaving cash for my half of the tip.
She had to call someone to come pay her bill and shes furious with me. She texted our group chat saying I "humiliated her" at the restaurant and left her stranded.
TL;DR: Friend said she was short on cash, I offered to cover her meal, she ordered $80 worth of food, I refused to pay and only covered my own meal.
