Tips?

So I recently got back into TBOI repentance after seeing it was available on Playstation for 60 bucks. Its been ~3 years since I've played repentance, and I feel like a total noob since I have no item description mod and I suck at dodging, or any strats in general. Are there any important unlocks I should get at the start or tips I should know?
