[EVENT] The Breakaway

Wellington January 2026

David Seymour prepared his speech. One News, Stuff, and Radio NZ are all in for his broadcast. David Seymour, still sour from the coalition denying him the Treaty Principles Bill, finally called an action. If one could remember, the Treaty Principles Bill aimed to basically remove the distinction of the Maori in the Treaty of Waitangi. In a bold move, everyone except ACT voted to shoot down the bill. A few months came by and Winston's Deputy Prime Minister role officially ended.

Fighting for the same, Seymour continued with barrages of bills either unsupported by the Nationals or NZ First voting against it. The left have more unified front.

Now the Deputy Prime Minister has delivered something. One News is the first to pick it up.

David Seymour met with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon but leaks pointed to ACT no longer providing a coalition but a confidence and supply agreement. Luxon believed that it still gives the Nationals confidence of the House but ACT cited that the breaking of the coalition is from the failed Treaty Principles Bill.

---

When news of breaking of the coalition reached Winston, he began to work and call Christopher Luxon. The confidence and supply agreement of ACT renders Seymour as not part of government. While the Nationals want to drop this as a secret, losing your deputy PM is something that must be announced and replaced. In a span of a few days, the portfolio is given to Winston Peters, which held the role before David Seymour.

---

Labour leader Chris Hipkins is seen around Labour HQ in Wellington. The breaking of the coalition meant that the rocky foundation is not as strong as what Luxon made Labour believe. In instability, he knows that one person may be called but not right, not at this point.

"She can sweep them away. Soon."

Labour has been doing well in the polls since the deplorable actions of the government as well as inactivity when it comes to civil rights protection.

---

The minor parties are moving in, pushing the unstable government to seek the Writ of Elections. Marama Davidson, leader of the Green Party, has been pushing to keep the government's coalition in check but had to face a defection of their own. For now, the Greens are dealing with their defected MP by pursuing the Waka Jumping Law.

---

There is only little Nationals can do. The change from coalition to Confidence and Supply is something they cannot afford right now. The party is losing morale. How long can they keep playing government? For now, Chris Hipkins is heard making a call.

"Jacinda?"
